Procedure

To a solution of 0.12 g (0.6 mmol) (trans)-N-[[2-(2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-4-yl) cyclopropyl]methyl]propanamide and 0.27 g (0.6 mmol) of lead IV tetraacetate in 1 mL acetic acid was added 0.075 g (0.25 mmol) iodine. The solution was allowed to stir for 1.5 h and was diluted with methylene chloride. The resulting solution was washed with water and saturated sodium bicarbonate solution and dried. The solution was concentrated in vacuo and the residue purified by chromatography on silica eluting with ethyl acetate-hexane, 3:7 containing 0.2% methanol to give the product (25 mg, 11%, mp 148°-149° C.). Anal. Calc'd for C15H18INO2.0.1H2O: C, 48.30; H, 4.92; N 3.75; Found: C, 47.94; H, 4.67; N, 3.70.
