Reaction Steps

1-Benzyloxycarbonyl-4-(2-oxo-1,3-oxazolidin-3-yl)piperidine. A solution of the amino alcohol (1.7 g) and 1,1'-carbonyldiimidazole (2.4 g) in chloroform (30 mL) was heated at reflux for 6 hours. The reaction mixture was diluted with dichloromethane and washed with 1 N sodium hydroxide and water. The separated organic phase was dried and evaporated to give the oxazolidin-3-yl piperidine as a viscous oil (1.9 g); NMR: 7.35 (m,5), 5.13 (s,2), 4.34 (m,4), 3.89 (m,1), 3.49 (m,2), 2.86 (m,2), 1.78 (m,2), 1.58 (m,2); MS: m/z=305(M+1).
