Procedure
2.74 g of 1-(thiazol-2-ylamino)methane-1,1-diphosphonic acid (example 1 ) are suspended in 10 ml of water. While stirring, 10 ml of 2N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution are added dropwise to the suspension. The resulting solution is evaporated to dryness. 40 ml of methanol are added to the resulting viscous residue and the mixture is stirred thoroughly. The resulting crystalline precipitate is filtered off and dried, yielding the disodium 1-(thiazol-2-ylamino)methane-1,1-diphosphonate of the formula ##STR10## which has a melting point of more than 320°.
