Methanesulphonyl chloride (1.91 g) was added to a stirred solution of the product of part (iii) (5.15 g) in pyridine (50 ml) at 0°. The solution was stirred at room temperature for 18 hours and then evaporated. The residue was treated with aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution and the mixture was extracted several times with ethyl acetate. The combined extracts were washed with water, dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated. The residue was crystallised from ethyl acetate/hexane to give the title compound, (5.17 g), m.p. 150°-151°.
