By the method of Example 5, 0.50 g (1.96 mmol) of trans-3-benzyl-4,6-chromandiol and 445 mg (2.16 mmol) of 2-chloro-6-(bromomethyl)pyridine were converted to present title product purified by recrystallization from CH2Cl2 /hexane, to yield 0.50 g (67%) of present title compound, m.p. 117°-119° C.
