4-(3-chlorophenyl)-6-[(4-chlorophenyl)hydroxy(4-methyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)methyl]-1-methyl-2(1H)-quinolinone (0.012 mol) (described in Example B13) was added portionwise at 5° C. to thionyl chloride (6 ml). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4 hours. The solvent was evaporated till dryness. The product was used without further purification in the next reaction step, yielding 6-[chloro(4-chlorophenyl)(4-methyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)methyl]-4-(3-chlorophenyl)-1-methyl-2(1H)-quinolinone.
