0.5 g 1.5 mmol) of N-[2-(4-Methoxy-phenyl)-2-oxo-ethyl]-isophthalamic acid methylester from Preparation 2 was dissolved in ˜15 mL of poly phosphoric acid. The mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 2 hours before allowing it to cool to room temperature. Water (60 mL) was added, and the product precipitated upon agitation. The solid was filtered and washed with water. Slurried solid product in hot methanol and filtered. Dried in vacuum oven overnight to obtain 0.38 (80%) desired product.
