A solution of 1.7 g (5.5 mmol) N-[2-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-2-oxo-ethyl]-isophthalamic acid methylester from Preparation 3 in a 3:1:1 mixture of THF/methanol/water was added 10 mL (10 mmol) 1N NaOH. The mixture was stirred 4 hours at room temperature before concentrating on a rotary evaporator. The residue was treated with 6M HCl then filtered, washed with water (1×) and dried in a vacuum oven overnight at 70° C. to provide 1.5 g (91%) desired product.
