Reaction Steps
After a mixture of ethyl 3-[1-[4-(3-chloro-6-phenyl-2-pyridylmethoxy)benzyl]-3-ethoxy-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]propionate (738 mg), 1N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (3 ml), tetrahydrofuran (6 ml) and ethanol (6 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours, 1 N hydrochloric acid (3 ml) was added to the mixture, and then the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with a saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated. The resulting colorless crystals were collected by filtration to obtain 3-[1-[4-(3-chloro-6-phenyl-2-pyridylmethoxy)benzyl]-3-ethoxy-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]propionic acid (669 mg, yield: 96%). This was recrystallized from ethyl acetate-hexane. Melting point: 120–121° C.
