Sodium borohydride (42 mg, 1.10 mmol), followed by MeOH (0.38 mL), was added to a solution of 7-[2-oxo-6-((E)-3-oxo-oct-1-enyl)-piperidin-1-yl]-heptanoic acid methyl ester (40 mg, 0.11 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (1.13 mL) at 0° C. The mixture was allowed to warm to rt. After 3 h at rt, the reaction was quenched with aqueous HCl (1.0 M) and extracted with EtOAc (3×10 mL). The combined organic phase was washed with brine (20 mL) then dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford 40 mg (99%) of the title compound.
