Reaction Steps

In 25 ml of chloroform was dissolved 3.1 g of N-[4-(heptafluoro-2-propyl)-2-methylphenyl]pyridine-2,3-dicarboximide, and 5.0 g of m-chloroperbenzoic acid was added thereto at room temperature. After the resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours, a saturated aqueous sodium hydrogencarbonate solution was added to the reaction solution, followed by extraction with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed successively with water, a saturated aqueous sodium hydrogencarbonate solution and a saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution, and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure and the resulting residue was purified by a silica gel column chromatography using ethyl acetate/n-hexane as an eluent, to obtain 820 mg (yield: 84%) of the desired compound.
