Reaction Steps
To a solution of compound (vi) (3.2 g, 7.62 mmol) in anhydrous acetone (50 mL) was added anhydrous potassium carbonate (4.22 g, 30.5 mmol). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 mins then added dropwise benzyl bromide (1.30 g, 7.62 mmol). The stirring was continued for an additional 48 h and the reaction mixture was filtered off. The cake was washed thoroughly with acetone and the combined-filtrate was evaporated to dryness. The residue was redissolved in CH2Cl2 and the organic layer was washed with water, saturated salt solution and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The removal of the solvent resulted in a yellow foam, and the product was purified on a silica gel column to give (vii) as a solid, 2.5 g (69%); MS 474 (M+H)+.
