Procedure

A mixture of 2 (1.0 g, 4.88 mmol), di-2-pyridyl thionocarbonate prepared as described by Kim, S., et al., “Di-2-pyridyl Thionocarbonate. A New Reagent For The Preparation Of Isothiocyanates And Carbodiimides,” Tet. Lett. 1985, 26, 1661-1664, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference, (17, 1.36 g, 5.86 mmol), and anhydrous pyridine (474 mg, 6.0 mmol) in anhydrous chloroform (25 mL) is stirred for 3 hours at room temperature. The reaction mixture is washed with 0.5N HCl then dried over anhydrous MgSO4, followed by evaporation of the solvent to give the product.
