A mixture of 5.2 parts of 1,3-dihydro-1-[3-(1-piperazinyl)propyl]-2H-benzimidazol-2-one, 5.28 parts of 2-(chlorophenylmethyl)pyridine hydrochloride, 5.3 parts of sodium carbonate and 90 parts of N,N-dimethylformamide is stirred and heated overnight at 50° C. The reaction mixture is cooled and poured onto ice-water. The product is extracted with methylbenzene. The extract is dried, filtered and evaporated. The residue is crystallized from a mixture of 4-methyl-2-pentanone and 2,2'-oxybispropane. The product is filtered off and dried, yielding 2 parts (23.4%) of 1,3-dihydro-1-[3-{4-[phenyl(2-pyridinyl)methyl]-1-piperazinyl}propyl]-2H-benzimidazol-2-one; mp. 141.7° C.
