Following a procedure similar to that described above in part B of this example by using 4-(1-benzyl-5-fluoro-3-indolyl)-2,3-dichloro-4-oxo-2-butenoic acid instead of 4-(1,2-dimethyl-3-indolyl)-2,3-dichloro-4-oxo-2-butenoic acid and 1-methyl-6-nitroindole in place of 1,2-dimethylindole, there is obtained 5-(1-benzyl-5-fluoro-3-indolyl)-5-(1-methyl-6-nitro-3-indolyl)-3,4-dichloro-2(5H)-furanone (Formula V: R=C6H5CH2 ; R1 =R3 =H; R2 =CH3 ; Y=6-F; Y1 =6-NO2).
