Methyl 2-[N-(2-(phenethyl)benzyl)amino]pyridine-5-carboxylate was prepared from methyl 2-amino-5-pyridinecarboxylate and 2-phenethylbenzoic acid by a procedure similar to that described in Example 4 paragraph (G), except that the imine intermediate, methyl 2-[N-(2-(phenethyl)benzylidene)amino]-5-pyridinecarboxylate, was formed by heating methyl 2-amino-5-pyridinecarboxylate and 2-phenethylbenzoic acid in a Dean & Starke apparatus in toluene for 18 hours.
