Procedure
A mixture of 6-[N-(5-bromo-2-benzylaminobenzyl)-N-ethylamino]pyridazine-3-carboxamide (700 mg, 1.59 mmol), sodium hydroxide pellets (200 mg, 5.0 mmol) and butanol was stirred at reflux for 3 hours. The mixture was cooled, diluted with water (100 ml) and washed with hexane (2×100 ml). The aqueous layer was acidified with formic acid and extracted with dichloromethane (2×200 ml). The combined organic extracts were dried over anhydrous magnesium sulphate and evaporated to give a white solid, which was triturated with ether and filtered to give the title compound (500 mg).
