To a methanol solution of 0.934 g (2.5 mmol) of 5-pentylidene-3-[4-(imidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-8-yloxy)butyl]thiazolidine-2,4-dione, 0.625 ml of 4N hydrochloric acid-ethyl acetate was added, followed by stirring. After the solvent was distilled off, the residue was washed with ether to yield 1.03 g (quant., white solid) of the desired product.
