Ethyl 1-(4-methoxybenzyl)-4-(2-nitrobenzoyl)-1,2, 3-triazole-5-carboxylate (629 mg, 1.53 mmole) was dissolved in ethanol (6.0 ml), and 10% palladium on carbon (58 mg) was added. After the mixture was stirred under a hydrogen atmosphere at room temperature for 16 hours, 10% palladium on carbon (60 mg) was added, and the mixture was further stirred for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered through celite, and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. Precipitate was collected by filtration to give ethyl 4-(2-aminobenzoyl)-1-(4-methoxybenzyl)-1,2,3-triazole-5-carboxylate (548 mg, 94.2%) as a yellow crystalline powder.
