1-(3-Methyl-2-butenyl)-3-butyryl pyridinium chloride was hydrogenated according to the procedure described in Part (b) of Example 6 to give propyl 1-(3-methylbutyl)-1,4,5,6-tetrahydro-3-pyridyl ketone (14). The product was distilled as a pale yellow oil (b.pt. 126-129°C./0.02 mm Hg).
