A mixture of 8.23 g of 2-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)-5-(2-chlorobenzyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothieno[3,2-c]pyridine, 4.31 g of p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate and 40 ml of methylene chloride was stirred at 40° C. for 2 hours to obtain precipitated crystals. The obtained precipitated crystals were filtered, washed with 20 ml of methylene chloride and dried under reduced pressure to obtain 7.85 g of 5-(2-chlorobenzyl)-5,6,7,7a-tetrahydrothieno[3,2-c]-pyridin-2-one-p-toluenesulfonate.
