Procedure

10.3 g. of 1-(2,5-dimethylphenyl)-1-(4-benzyloxyphenyl)-allyl alcohol are dissolved in 110 ml. of ethanol and the reaction mixture is hydrogenated under atmospheric pressure, in the presence of 3.5 g. of Raney nickel catalyst. After uptake of the calculated amount of hydrogen is complete, the catalyst is filtered off. Ethanol is distilled off under reduced pressure. As a residue 9 g. of the named compound are obtained as a viscous oil, boiling at 190°-192° C./26.6 Pa.
