o-Chlorophenylacetic acid → Acetyl chloride, 2-(2-chlorophenyl)-
Participants
| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | o-Chlorophenylacetic acid | HCID 17124 | — |
| Reactant | Thionyl Chloride | HCID 24386 | — |
| Product | Acetyl chloride, 2-(2-chlorophenyl)- | HCID 182669 | 99% |
Reaction Steps
A mixture of 30.0 gm (0.176 mole) of o-chlorophenyl-acetic acid and 40.0 mL of thionyl chloride was stirred at ambient temperature for 18 hours. The volatiles were then removed in vacuo to give 32.76 gm (99.0 %) of o-chloro-phenylacetyl chloride as a transparent, pale yellow, mobile liquid.
