To 4,6-dichloro-2-phenylpyrimidine (1.5 g, 6.7 mmol) in acetonitrile (20 mL) was added Cs2CO3 (2.4 g, 7.4 mmol) and 3-hydroxy4-(benzyloxy)benzonitrile (1.5 g, 6.5 mmol). After stirring for 24 hours, water was added to the reaction mixture and the resulting solid was collected by suction filtration to give 2.6 g of 3-[(6-chloro-2-phenylpyrimidin-4-yl)oxy]-4-(benzyloxy)benzonitrile.
