Prepared according to the method described in Example 4(b) above from Nα -Boc-Nδ -Cbz-(R)-ornithine-o-nitrophenyl ester (5.2 g; 10.6 mmol; see Example 4(a) above), (R)-1-(1-naphthyl)ethylamine hydrochloride (2.0 g; 11.7 mmol), and CH2Cl2 (150 mL), 48 hours reaction time. The resultant yellow solution was concentrated to afford the crude sub-title compound as a solid (7.5 g) which was used directly in the next step.
