Acetic acid (2 ml) and iron powder (150 mg) were added to ethyl 1-(5-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-2,4-difluorophenyl)-6-methoxy-8-methyl-7-nitro-4-oxo-1,4-dihydroquinoline-3-carboxylate (200 mg), and the mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 40 minutes. The catalyst was removed by filtration through Celite, and the solvent and the like in the filtrate were distilled off. The residue was subjected to column chromatography on silica gel to conduct elution with chloroform, thereby obtaining the title compound (140 mg) as an amorphous substance.
