Reaction Steps
In a solution of 5'-carboxy-2'-hydroxy-4-(2-quinolinylmethoxy)chalcone (1 mmol) in 10 ml of glacial acetic acid, 0.06 ml of bromine was gradually added dropwise. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours, and the resulting yellow precipitate was collected and then washed with water. The precipitate was next dissolved in a mixed solvent which was consisted of 8 ml of ethanol and 15 ml of 6% potassium hydroxide. The resulting solution was stirred further for 4 hours. After the reaction mixture was acidified, the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration and then recrystallized from DMF, whereby the title compound represented by the following formula was obtained (yield: 25%). ##STR16##
