Reaction Steps
3'-Carboxy-2'-hydroxy-4-[(2-quinolinyl)methoxy]chalcone (1.2 mmol) was dissolved in 35 ml of methanol, followed by the addition of 2 ml of 16% potassium hydroxide. While the resulting mixture was stirred over an ice bath, 2.0 ml of a 15% aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide were gradually added dropwise. The resulting mixture was allowed to stand for 24 hours at 4° C. The reaction mixture was acidified with 1 N hydrochloric acid. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration and the recrystallized from DMF, whereby the title compound represented by the following formula was obtained (yield: 49%). ##STR41##
