Procedure
Methyl 4-nitro-3-octoxybenzoate (8.7 g, 0.028 mol) was dissolved in 150 mL methanol to form a solution. It was stirred at room temperature in the presence of 10% Pd--C under H2 atmosphere for 29 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered through celite, concentrated to give the product methyl 4-amino-3-octoxybenzoate as an off-white solid (7.6 g, 96%). 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): 7.25 (d, J=2.1 Hz, 1H), MS calcd (C16H25NO3): 279.2; found: 279.0.
