A solution of cis-4-(3,5-bis-trifluoromethyl-benzylamino)-2-methyl-2,3,4,6,7,8-hexahydro-cyclopenta[g]quinoline-1-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (Example 1E) (50 mg, 0.1 mmol) and pyridine (0.15 mL, 1.85 mmol) in dichloromethane (2.5 mL) was cooled in an ice water bath as acetyl chloride (0.2 mL, 2.8 mmol) was added by syringe. After stirring overnight at room temperature, the mixture was washed with 2N HCl, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography eluting with 25% ethyl acetate/hexanes to afford 20 mg of the title compound. MS m/z 542.5 (M+); 1H NMR δ 1.1 (d, 3H), 2.3 (s, 3H), 6.8 (s, 1H), 7.3 (s, 1H).
