54.0 g of 1-(p-[4-methoxybutoxy]-phenoxy)-3-aminopropan-2-ol ##STR66## 37.3 g of 6-methylnicotinoyl-acetone ##STR67## 400 ml of ethanol and 0.1 ml of formic acid are heated to 50° for 1 hour and stirred at room temperature for a further 20 hours. Filtration gives 61.3 g of 1-(2-[6 -methylnicotinoyl]-1-methylvinylamino)-3-(p-[4-methoxy- butoxy]-phenoxy)-propan-2-ol ##STR68## Melting points: 143°-145°. A further 15.0 g of the same substance can be obtained from the filtrate. Yield: 89% of theory.
