Procedure

To a solution of (1S,5R,6R,7R)-6-(4,4-difluoro-5-oxooctyl)-7-tetrahydropyranyloxy-2-oxabicyclo[3.3.0]octan-3- one (32) (5.48 g) in methanol was added sodium borohydride (0.800 g) at 0° C. and the resulting mixture was stirred for 10 minutes. The reaction mixture was treated in the conventional manner and the obtained crude product was subjected to column chromatography to give the title compound (33).
