115 cm3 of a 6.3N solution of hydrochloric acid in dioxane are added to a solution of 6.8 g of (3aS,4S,7aS)-4,7,7-triphenyl-2-tert-butoxycarbonylperhydroisoindol-4-ol in 60 cm3 of dioxane at room temperature. The reaction mixture is stirred at this temperature for 2 hours and then concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure (2.7 kPa). The residue is washed with acetonitrile, filtered off and then dried. 4 g of (3aS,4S,7aS)-4,7,7-triphenylperhydroisoindol-4-ol hydrochloride are obtained in the form of a white foam.
