Reaction Steps
The ethyl 3-(2-dimethylaminomethylphenoxy)phenyl-acetate acid obtained by the preceding reaction is dissolved in 20 ml of 25% hydrochloric acid and heated under reflux with stirring for five hours. The solvent is then distilled off. The residue is taken up in toluene. The solvent is distilled off again to a residue. The residue is triturated with acetone, the product being obtained in crystalline form. The crystals are filtered off with suction, washed with acetone and air-dried. 3-(2-Dimethylaminomethylphenoxy)-phenylacetic acid, m.p. 205-208°, is obtained.
