Reaction Steps
At room temperature, 4.0 g (9 mmol) of the (-)-5-undecyloxy-2-{4-(6-hydroxy-1-trans-heptenyl)-phenyl}-pyrimidine obtained in Example 14, 40 ml of methyl iodide and 6.3 g (27 mmol) of silver oxide were stirred for 40 hours. Then, the reaction mixture was washed with 1 N hydrochloric acid and saturated aqueous solution of sodium chloride, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure. Purification of the residue by silica gel column chromatography gave 2.1 g (yield 52%) of (-)-5-undecyloxy-2-{4-(6-methoxy-1-trans-heptenyl)-phenyl}-pyrimidine, [α]D20 =-1.6 (c=1.0, CHCl3).
