Reaction Steps

4′-Hydroxy-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-carboxanilide (13.5 g), ethylene carbonate (5.96 g) and tetrabutylammonium iodide (2.26 g) were combined and stirred for 2 hours at 166° C. After being cooled, the mixture was added with water (100 ml) and further mixed. Crystals formed were collected by filtration, washed with water and then dried under vacuum at 60° C. to obtain 4′-(2-hydroxyethoxy)-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-carboxanilide (14.5 g) as white crystal.
