Procedure

A mixture of 3-acetylamino-6-chloro-2-(3-carboxybenzoyl)indole (Example 132, 0.9 g, 2.5 mmol) and 10% HCl—MeOH (30 ml) was heated at 60° C. for 8 h. The mixture was cooled and concentrated, and the residue partitioned between water (100 ml) and ethyl acetate (100 ml). The organic layer was separated and washed with brine (50 ml), and dried (MgSO4) and solvent removed by evaporation. The residual solid was purified by flash column chromatography eluting with hexane/ethyl acetate (2/1) to afford 0.5 g of a title compound as a yellow solid. m.p.: 187-189° C. (ethyl acetate/hexane) 1H-NMR (DMSO-d6) δ: 9.14 (1H, br s), 8.47 (1H, dd, J=1.8, 1.1 Hz), 8.20 (1H, ddd, J=7.7, 1.8, 1.1 Hz), 8.03 (1H, ddd, J=7.7, 1.8, 1.1 Hz), 7.69-7.58 (2H, m), 7.28 (1H, d, J=1.8 Hz), 6.97 (1H, dd, J=1.4, 8.4 Hz), 6.04 (2H, br s), 3.95 (3H, s)
