Reaction Steps
A solution containing 1.5 mmol of the product of Example 1, 3 ml of an aqueous 1N sodium hydroxide solution and 30 ml of ethanol is refluxed for 12 hours. After returning to ambient temperature, the reaction mixture is concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue is then diluted with water and subsequently taken up in ethyl ether. The organic phase is then acidified by the addition of 6 ml of 1N HCl solution. A precipitate forms, which is filtered off, rinsed with water and then dried under reduced pressure, allowing the expected compound to be obtained.
