Using Method D above, methyl 4-pentynoate (0.18 g, 1.65 mmol) was coupled with (Z)-4-bromo-1,3-dihydro-3-[(3-methoxy-1H-pyrrol-2-yl)methylene]-5-nitro-2H-indol-2-one (Starting Material 1 supra) (0.3 g, 0.82 mmol) using (Ph3P)2PdCl2 (28.8 mg) and CuI (7.8 mg) as catalyst in DMF (8 mL) and Et3N (8 mL) as solvent at 85° C. for 18 h to yield (Z)-5-[2,3-dihydro-3-[(3-methoxy-1H-pyrrol-2-yl)methylene]-5-nitro-2-oxo-1H-indol-4-yl]-4-pentynoic acid methyl ester. (Yield 0.23 g, 72%).
