(R)-3-[5-[2-[N-(tert-Butoxycarbonyl)-N-[2- (2-ethoxy-phenoxy)ethyl]amino]propyl]-7-carbamoyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-indol-1-yl]propyl pivalate (8.53 g) was dissolved in methanol (280 ml), and 10% palladium on carbon (853 mg) and ammonium formate (3.97 g) were added to the solution. The mixture was heated under reflux for 13 hours, and the catalysts were filtered off. The solvent was removed in vacuo to give pale green amorphous (R)-3-[5-[2-[N-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-N-[2-(2-ethoxyphenoxy)ethyl]amino]propyl]-7-carbamoyl-1H-indol-1-yl]propyl pivalate (8.20 g).
