To a solution of 73.6 mg of 4-nitrobenzyl (1S,5R, 6S)-6-((1R)-1-hydroxyethyl)-1-methyl-2-(3-methylimidazo[5,1-b]thiazol-2-yl)-1-carbapen-2-em-3-carboxylate in 0.5 ml of dry dichloromethane was added 0.95 ml of iodomethane, and the mixture was stirred under the atmosphere of argon in the darkness at room temperature for 18 hours. Unreacted reagent was removed under reduced pressure to give 89.1 mg of 4-nitrobenzyl (1S,5R,6S)-2-(3,6-dimethylimidazo[5,1-b]thiazolium-2-yl)-6-((1R)-1-hydroxyethyl)-1-methyl-1-carbapen-2-em-3-carboxylate iodide.
