(5,6,7,8-Tetrahydro-naphthalen-2-yl)-hydrazine 3h (2.0 g, 12.3 mmol) was dissolved in 50 mL of acetic acid followed by addition of ethyl acetoacetate (1.57 mL, 12.3 mmol). The reaction mixture was heated to 100° C. overnight. The reaction was monitored by TLC until the disappearance of the starting materials. The mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and the resulting residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography to obtain the title compound 5-methyl-2-(5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-naphthalen-2-yl)-2,4-dihydro-pyrazol-3-one 3i (1.58 g, yield 56.2%) as a colourless oil.
