Procedure

2-(2′-Methoxy-3′-amino-biphenyl-4-yl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol 32c (1.1 g, 4.1 mmol) was dissolved in 50 mL of dichloromethane at room temperature, followed by addition of a solution of boron tribromide in dichloromethane (1 N, 16.5 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4 hours. The reaction was monitored by TLC until the disappearance of the starting materials and then quenched with methanol. The mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in 10 mL of ethyl acetate and stirred for 30 minutes. The mixture was filtered and the filter cake was washed with ethyl acetate (5 mL×2) and dried to obtained the title compound 2-(2′-hydroxy-3′-amino-biphenyl-4-yl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol 32d (900 mg, 89.6%) as a grey solid.
