Reaction Steps

5-bromo-3-isopropyl-2-methoxybenzaldehyde (26.76 g) was dissolved in n-hexane (50 mL) and triethyl orthoformate (22 mL), and Amberlyst-15 (2.68 g) was added to the solution, and then the mixture was refluxed for 4 hours. The reaction solution was filtered, and then the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain the title compound (31.55 g) as a brown oily substance.
