3-(3-formyl-4-methoxy-5-trifluoromethylbenzoyl)-2,3-dihydro-1,3-benzothiazole (277 mg) was dissolved in ethanol (1.5 mL) and triethyl orthoformate (0.16 mL), Amberlyst-15 (27 mg) was added to the solution, and then the mixture was refluxed for 3.5 hours. The reaction solution was filtered, and then the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain the title compound (326 mg) as a yellow oily substance.
