Reaction Steps
3-(3-formyl-4-methoxy-5-trifluoromethylbenzoyl)-1,1-dioxo-2,3-dihydro-1,3-benzothiazole (248 mg) was dissolved in methanol (2.5 mL) and an aqueous 10% citric acid solution (2.5 mL), and 2-methyl-2-butene (0.33 mL) and sodium chlorite (84 mg) were added to the solution, and then the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure and 1N hydrochloric acid was added, and then the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with an aqueous 10% sodium thiosulfate solution and saturated brine, and then dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain the title compound (277 mg) as a pale yellow oily substance.
