5-bromo-2-methoxy-3-trifluoromethoxybenzaldehyde (5.22 g) was dissolved in n-hexane (15 mL) and triethyl orthoformate (4.4 mL), and Amberlyst-15 (522 mg) was added to the solution, and then the mixture was refluxed for 3 hours. The reaction solution was filtered, and then the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain the title compound (6.19 g) as a brown oily substance.
