1-(4-methoxymethoxy-3-trifluoromethoxyphenyl)ethanone (540 mg) was dissolved in methanol (30 mL), and sodium methoxide (1.10 g) and N-bromosuccinimide (1.09 g) were added to the solution, and then the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes. Water was added to the reaction solution and the reaction mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saturated brine, and then dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain the title compound (590 mg) as a yellow crystal.
