Procedure

The method for producing catechol as described above, by reducing (4S,5R,6S)-4,5,6-trihydroxy-2-cyclohexene-1-one with hydrogen to produce (2S,3R,4S)-2,3,4-trihydroxycyclohexane-1-one represented by the following formula (3), and dehydrating the (2S,3R,4S)-2,3,4-trihydroxycyclohexane-1-one.
