Reaction Steps
2.5 mL (2.5 mmol) of aqueous 1 N sodium hydroxide solution are added to a solution of 0.7 g (1.7 mmol) of methyl (Z)-2-methoxy-3-[3′-(1-methyl-3-phenylureido)biphenyl-4-yl]acrylate in 12 mL of tetrahydrofuran. The reaction medium is heated at 68° C. and stirred for 4 hours. The reaction medium is acidified with 2.6 mL of 1 N acetic acid solution and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phase is washed with water, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and evaporated. The residue obtained is filtered from hot ethanol. 410 mg (60%) of (Z)-2-methoxy-3-[3′-(1-methyl-3-phenylureido)biphenyl-4-yl]acrylic acid are obtained in the form of a white solid with a melting point of 223° C.
